재정 지능지수

지능지수(IQ, Intelligence Quotient )니 감성지수(EQ, EmotionI Quotient), 변화지수(Change Quotient)라는 말을 들어본 적이 있으신지요?

비슷한 개념의 말로 재정지수라는 용어를 들어보셨나요? 재정에 관한 지식이나 능력을 가늠할 때 재정지수가 얼마냐라고 말하기도 합니다.

모든 사람들은 알게 모르게 경제생활을 합니다. 누구나 돈을 벌고 씁니다. 돈을 얼마나 잘 벌고 잘 쓰느냐에 따라 부자가 될 수도 있고 가난해 질 수도 있습니다.

재정에 관한 지식이 부족하여 고생하는 젊은이들이 적지 않습니다. 버는 것 이상으로 쓰는 것에 익숙해져서 빚더미에 앉기도 하고 자신의 능력 이상으로 신용카드를 남발하여 힘들어 합니다.  

경제적으로 어려운 시기에는 재정에 관한 지식을 습득하고 실천할 수 있는 좋은 기회가 아닐까 싶습니다. 우리네 어르신들이 강조하셨던 근검절약을 실천할 수 있는 좋은 기회도 되겠지요.

둘째 아이는 요즈음 아르바이트로 돈 버는 재미에 푹 빠졌습니다. 토론토의 북쪽 리치몬드 힐에 위치한 한 일식집(Tomo Sushi)에서 웨이트리스 일을 배우고 있습니다. 카운터에서 음식 값을 계산하거나 전화로 take-out 주문을 받는 일을 담당하고 있다고 합니다.

많게는 하루에 12시간씩 일할 때도 있습니다. 지난 여름 삼 주 동안의 유럽 여행에서 쓴 비용을 충당하겠다는 것이지요. 돈을 버는 것 자체도 귀하지만 돈이 그저 생기는 게 아니라는 사실을 깨닫는 것과 땀 흘려 일하는 즐거움-노동의 가치-을 배워가는 것도 귀하게 여겨집니다
