<만일 내가 인생을 다시 산다면>

이번에는 용감히 더 많은 실수를 저지르리라.
느긋하고 유연하게 살리라.
그리고 더 바보처럼 살리라.
매사를 심각하게 생각하지 않을 것이며
더 많은 기회를 붙잡으리라.
더 자주 여행을 다니고
더 많은 산을 오르고, 더 많은 강을 헤엄치리라.
아이스크림은 더 많이 그리고 콩은 더 조금 먹으리라.
어쩌면 실제로 더 많은 문제가 있을 수도 있겠지만
일어나지도 않을 걱정거리를 상상하지는 않으리라.
나는 매 순간을
매일을 좀 더 뜻깊고 사려 깊게 사는 사람이 되리라.
아, 나는 이미 많은 순간들을 마주했으나
인생을 다시 시작한다면 그런 순간들을 많이 가지리라.
그리고 순간을 살되
쓸데없이 시간을 보내지 않으리라.
먼 나날만 바라보는 대신
이 순간을 즐기며 살아가리라.
지금까지 난 체온계와 보온병, 비옷, 우산, 그리고 낙하산 없이는 어디도 못가는 사람이었다.
이제 내가 인생을 다시 산다면
보다 간소한 차림으로 여행길을 나서리라.
내가 인생을 다시 시작한다면
이른 봄부터 늦가을까지
신발을 벗어던지고 맨발로 지내리라.
춤도 자주 추리라.
메리 고 라운드를 자주 타리라
들국화도 더 자주 따리라.

<If I Had My Life to Live Over>

I'd dare to make more mistakes next time.
I'd relax. I would limber up.
I would be sillier than I have been this trip.
I would take fewer things seriously.
I would take more chances.
I would take more trips.
I would climb more mountains and swim more rivers.
I would eat more ice cream and less beans.
I would perhaps have more actual troubles but I'd have fewer imaginary ones.
You see, I'm one of those people who live sensibly and sanely hour after hour, day after day.
Oh, I've had my moments and if I had it to do over again, I'd have more of them. In fact, I'd try to have nothing else. Just moments.
One after another, instead of living so many years ahead of each day.
I've been one of those people who never go anywhere without a thermometer, a hot water bottle, a raincoat and a parachute.
If I had my life to live over, I would start barefoot earlier in the spring and stay that way later in the fall.
If I had it to do again, I would travel lighter next time.
I would go to more dances.
I would ride more merry-go-rounds.
I would pick more daisies.
